If you’re having a problem with your lawyer, there are several avenues of recourse depending on the nature of the dispute and where you found the lawyer.
If you received the lawyer through your local lawyer referral service, your first step should be to contact the lawyer referral service and see what they recommend and can do to help.
If it is a fee dispute because you feel like the attorney is overcharging you, your local lawyer referral service may be able to guide you towards local fee arbitration services or some other service in your community to help with disputes of this nature.
If you believe a lawyer engaged in unethical conduct, you may consider making a formal grievance to your local attorney-licensing authority. View the nationwide list here.
